Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an outcome as assessed by traders. It’s common to see differences in implied probabilities between this market and sportsbook offerings, as prediction markets can be influenced by unique insights and information not readily available to the general public. Polls and analysts’ predictions often align more closely with prediction market probabilities than with sportsbook odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand, with higher demand pushing prices up and increased supply pushing them down, ultimately indicating the perceived likelihood of a win for either team.

Any news regarding player injuries, changes in team composition, or updates on their recent performance could significantly shift trader sentiment. Unexpected weather conditions during the match, or even perceived advantages based on court surface, might also play a role. Furthermore, large trading volume from informed participants could indicate new information or a change in expectations, potentially causing a noticeable movement in the odds for the US Open doubles match.
