Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can sometimes differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own analysis and to balance betting action, while this market is driven by individuals expressing their beliefs through trading. If there's a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular outcome. It’s a useful comparison to consider when forming your own opinion about the likely result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants trading on Polymarket.
