Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which can be influenced by factors like house bias or initial public perception. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs about the probability of each team winning the first half. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither guarantees the actual outcome.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, where traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome. The price of a contract reflects the market’s implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective belief. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The closer we get to the event, the more the price will likely move as new information becomes available and traders refine their predictions. Currently, the market is driven by trader sentiment and available information regarding team performance.
