Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines influenced by factors like public betting patterns and house biases. This market, however, is driven by individuals directly wagering on the outcome, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as new information emerges. While sportsbooks may initially offer different odds, they often adjust closer to prediction market prices as the event approaches, especially when significant money is placed on a particular outcome. It’s a fascinating comparison to observe.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular fighter, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence in their victory. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
