Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd assessment, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their risk and ensure profit, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the likely outcome. Over time, prediction market prices tend to be more accurate than traditional forecasts, as they incorporate a wider range of information and perspectives. However, sportsbook odds can sometimes offer value, particularly if they diverge significantly from the current price on Polymarket.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of these shares reflects the collective probability that traders assign to each outcome. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive up its price, indicating a greater perceived chance of that outcome occurring. Currently, all volume is focused on one outcome, indicating very strong conviction among traders. The market’s price will fluctuate based on new information and changing sentiment until the event resolves.
