Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to profit by balancing action on both sides, while this market allows traders to express their own beliefs about the probability of each outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to odds movements that diverge from those offered by sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the handball match.
