Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows participants to freely express their beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the event. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities as perceived by different groups, and neither is guaranteed to be accurate. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into public perception.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing each possible exact score outcome, and the price of these shares reflects the market's collective belief about the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect new information and changing sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is driven solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or predetermined formulas.
