This market refers to the combination of the pre-match coin toss and the final match result for the cricket match between Somerset and Essex scheduled for 2026-07-12 in T20 Blast, Women. This market resolves according to (1) the official toss result and (2) the finalized match result as published by https://www.espncricinfo.com/. The outcome corresponding to Somerset will be considered correct if Somerset is officially recorded as winning both the toss and the match. The outcome corresponding to Essex will be considered correct if Essex is officially recorded as winning both the toss and the match. In all other cases - including where the toss and match winners differ, or where no match winner is recorded - the market will resolve to "Draw". DLS/DRS adjustments, over-rate penalties, forfeit/walkover, Super Over, or any other on-field ruling that leads the competition to declare a match winner are treated as ordinary wins. If the match ends tied and the playing conditions provide an on-field tiebreak (e.g., Super Over), the tiebreak winner will be considered the match winner for this market. If the match ends tied with no tiebreak used or available, no team will be considered to have won the match and the market will resolve to "Draw". If the match is permanently canceled, abandoned, or otherwise completed without an official match winner being declared, the market will resolve to "Draw". If the match is postponed or rescheduled, the market remains open until the listed fixture is completed and will then resolve as described above.

Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price events differently. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and lock in profit margins, while this market reflects what traders actually believe will happen based on supply and demand. Prediction market prices often converge toward true probability as traders with better information profit from mispricings. For a toss outcome, sportsbooks typically offer near-even odds with a margin, whereas traders here may price based on team-specific factors, historical patterns, or other signals they believe are predictive.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the probability implied by the ratio of shares outstanding. As traders buy shares they believe are underpriced, the cost rises; selling pressure lowers it. This continuous repricing ensures the market remains liquid and responsive to new information right up until the toss occurs.
This market resolves around Jul 19, 2026, shortly after the toss takes place at the start of the Somerset versus Essex match. The outcome is determined by which team wins the coin flip, verified against credible public reporting of the match. Once the toss result is confirmed and documented, the market settles automatically, paying out traders who correctly predicted the winner.
Several factors may shift trader sentiment before the toss. Team news—injuries, lineup changes, or roster announcements—can influence perceptions of momentum or confidence. Weather conditions at the venue may prompt traders to reassess if either team has a historical edge in particular conditions. Social media sentiment, expert commentary, and betting patterns from other markets can also sway prices. Since the toss is inherently random, any perceived edge is speculative; however, traders often incorporate broader match context and team psychology into their predictions.
