Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the wisdom of the crowd on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome, though discrepancies can and do occur. It’s common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast events, especially when there is significant public interest and informed trading activity. Analyzing both sources can provide a more comprehensive understanding of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The higher the demand for shares in a particular outcome, the higher its price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of all participants trading on Polymarket.
