Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. This market, like others, can reflect the wisdom of the crowd, incorporating information and analysis from a diverse range of participants. Sportsbooks typically set odds based on their own models and risk assessments, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in how each entity interprets the available data. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price of each share adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. For example, a share priced at 60 means there's a 60% implied probability of that outcome being correct. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date expectations of participants.
