Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when public opinion diverges from the sportsbook's initial assessment. It’s common to see this market incorporate information and perspectives not fully captured by sportsbooks, resulting in odds that may be more accurate or simply represent a different viewpoint on the likely outcome of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's collective belief about the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect new information and changing sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price discovery process is driven entirely by supply and demand, with traders directly influencing the odds based on their individual analysis and risk tolerance. This dynamic pricing allows for a highly responsive and efficient market.
