Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and aim to balance risk, while this market allows anyone to express their view and influence the price. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular outcome. Comparing the odds can reveal where the crowd believes there's an edge, potentially highlighting mispricings or unique insights not captured by conventional betting outlets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or predetermined values.
