Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe an outcome is more likely than implied by sportsbook odds, the price will adjust accordingly. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a different assessment of probabilities. It’s valuable to compare both to gain a comprehensive view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price fluctuates, reflecting the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a 'yes' share, for example, represents the probability that Dino Prizmic will win the match. The market depth shows the available liquidity at different price points, indicating the strength of conviction among traders. This dynamic pricing allows for a constantly updated assessment of the match’s potential results.
