Frequently, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This can occur because prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of many individuals, potentially identifying information not yet reflected in sportsbook lines. While sportsbooks often set initial odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, leading to odds that may diverge from those offered elsewhere. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to breaking news or changes in player conditions, potentially offering more up-to-date probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a player will win, the higher the price of shares representing that player’s victory will climb. Conversely, if sentiment shifts, the price will adjust accordingly, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the St. Tropez tennis match.
