Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different pricing mechanisms. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets price outcomes based on real-time trader consensus and supply-demand dynamics. This market aggregates beliefs from many independent traders, which can sometimes reveal sharper or earlier signals than traditional sportsbooks, though both venues ultimately aim to reflect the true probability of the second half result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Participants buy and sell shares representing each outcome, and the price of each share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market. As more traders back one outcome, its price rises and the competing outcome's price falls, creating a dynamic equilibrium that continuously reprices the second half result.
This market resolves around Aug 2, 2026, once the second half of the match concludes and the result is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by which team scores more goals in the second half alone. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout, while losing positions expire worthless. Early resolution may occur if the match is abandoned or postponed beyond the resolution window.
Key catalysts include team news such as injuries, suspensions, or lineup changes announced before kickoff. Early match events—goals, red cards, or tactical shifts in the first half—often reshape expectations for the second half, as fatigue, momentum, and adjusted strategies come into play. Weather conditions, crowd atmosphere, and in-game momentum swings can all influence trader positioning. Close scorelines at halftime typically keep odds competitive, while lopsided first-half results may skew second-half expectations sharply in one direction.
