Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This is because prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, incorporating a wider range of information and perspectives than a sportsbook’s oddsmakers might consider. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to odds that diverge from those offered elsewhere. It's common to see prediction markets react quickly to new information or changing sentiment, potentially offering different value than established sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all traders on Polymarket.
