Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often include a 'vig' or commission built into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders on Predict, aims to reflect the true probability of outcomes. While sportsbooks may initially set lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, prediction markets can dynamically adjust as new information emerges and more people participate. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions and risk assessments.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the market's collective belief about the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices converge towards what the market perceives as the fair value. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The platform uses a market maker model to ensure there's always a bid and ask price available, facilitating smooth trading and price discovery. This dynamic pricing allows for a constantly updated assessment of the game's likely result.
