Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks typically set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market allows traders to express their own probabilities. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those seen here, it could indicate differing expert opinions or a belief among prediction market participants that the sportsbook is mispricing the event. It's important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are derived through different mechanisms and may appeal to different types of bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants, constantly adjusting as new information becomes available. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on Polymarket.
