Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply varying opinions among bettors and prediction market participants. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially exceeding the responsiveness of some sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price converges towards a collective assessment of the likelihood of each competitor winning the match. The platform’s design encourages efficient price discovery, as arbitrageurs can profit from discrepancies between the market price and their own estimations, driving the price towards a fair value.
