Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when public sentiment strongly favors one outcome. It’s common to see this market reflect information and opinions not fully captured by sportsbooks, potentially offering more accurate predictions based on the wisdom of the crowd. Comparing these odds can highlight differing viewpoints on the likely result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts, providing a dynamic assessment of the event's potential results. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, reflecting their collective expectations for the Shcherbak vs. Bindas match.
