Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If there’s a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the crowd believes the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular result. Keep in mind that prediction markets allow for more nuanced predictions than simple win/loss bets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event’s potential results. This dynamic pricing means the odds are constantly updated based on real-time demand and supply of shares, providing a forward-looking estimate of the match’s outcome.
