Generally, prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market’s probabilities are determined by the collective predictions of individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when public sentiment strongly favors a particular outcome. Comparing these odds can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees, of the final result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a specific outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants trading on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the potential result of the Gill vs Ofner match.
