Prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying levels of engagement from bettors. If sportsbooks heavily favor one player, but this market shows a more even split, it could indicate that prediction market participants have access to, or place more weight on, information not fully priced into the sportsbook lines. It’s a useful comparison point for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now.
