In the upcoming MLB game between the Seattle Mariners and Miami Marlins, scheduled for July 7 at 6:40PM ET: This market will resolve to "Seattle Mariners" if the Seattle Mariners win the game. This market will resolve to "Miami Marlins" if the Miami Marlins win the game. If the game is postponed, this market will remain open until the game has been completed. If the game is canceled entirely, with no make-up game, or ends in a tie, this market will resolve 50-50. The primary resolution source for this market is the official final statistics of the event as recognized by the governing body or event organizers. However, if the governing body or event organizers have not published final match statistics within 24 hours after the event's conclusion, a consensus of credible reporting may be used instead.
Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets like this one are driven purely by trader consensus—no house edge or vig. This market aggregates the beliefs of many independent participants, which can sometimes surface sharper or earlier signals than traditional betting lines. However, sportsbook odds benefit from professional oddsmakers and real-time adjustment to large bets, so neither source is universally more accurate. Comparing both can reveal where public opinion and professional opinion diverge.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker (AMM) model where traders buy and sell outcome shares directly against a liquidity pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome—such as a Seattle victory—is determined by the ratio of shares in the pool; as traders accumulate shares for one outcome, the price of that outcome rises and the price of the alternative falls. This mechanism ensures continuous pricing and prevents the market from ever becoming illiquid. Traders profit by buying low and selling high, or by holding shares until resolution if they believe the current price undervalues their preferred outcome.
This market resolves around Jul 14, 2026, once the game concludes and the final result is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by which team wins the matchup—no draws or ties apply in baseball. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome will receive their payout, while shares in the losing outcome expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the final out, allowing the market to settle quickly and fairly based on the official game result.
Several factors can shift odds in this market before Jul 14, 2026. Injury announcements—especially to star pitchers or key position players on either roster—often trigger sharp repricing. Lineup changes, recent team performance streaks, and head-to-head historical matchups can also sway trader sentiment. Weather conditions at game time, such as wind direction or temperature affecting ball carry, may influence bettors' confidence. Late-breaking news about player availability or unexpected roster moves can cause rapid price swings. As game time approaches, real-time updates on starting pitchers and final lineups typically drive the most volatile trading activity.
