Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of how each venue operates. If there's a significant difference between the implied probability here and sportsbook odds, it could indicate that traders believe the sportsbook is mispricing the event, or vice-versa. It’s a valuable comparison point for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
