Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities than those offered by sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price fluctuates, providing a dynamic assessment of the potential result. The current price indicates what traders collectively believe is the likelihood of Mcadoo/Osborne winning the Sao Paulo Open doubles match.
