Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to account for profit margins and potential liabilities, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to make accurate predictions. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular outcome. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to news and insights that haven’t yet been fully incorporated into sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price fluctuates, providing a dynamic assessment of the event's potential results. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on the platform.
