Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If a significant number of people believe a player has a higher chance of winning than sportsbooks suggest, the price will move accordingly. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly diverges from expert opinion or when new information emerges that isn’t yet fully factored into sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the crowd. Higher demand for shares in a particular player will drive up their price, indicating increased confidence in their chances of winning the Sao Paulo Open tennis match.
