Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and manage risk, while prediction markets like this one are priced by traders betting real money on their conviction. Sportsbooks typically adjust lines based on liability, whereas this market's odds emerge from continuous trading. For second-half wagering, prediction markets can sometimes offer sharper pricing on niche outcomes because specialized traders focus on in-game dynamics that casual bettors may overlook, though sportsbooks remain highly competitive on major leagues.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell volume. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current implied probability reflects the aggregate conviction of all active traders; as more capital flows toward San Diego Wave FC winning the second half, the price rises, and vice versa. Liquidity depth determines how large a trade can move the price, so deeper order books allow bigger positions with minimal slippage. Real-time price discovery means odds shift instantly in response to team news, injuries, or in-game events.
This market resolves around Jul 5, 2026, once the second half of the San Diego Wave FC versus Gotham FC match concludes and the result is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome is determined by which team scores more goals during the second 45 minutes of regulation play. Own goals count toward the team credited by official match records. If the second half ends in a draw, the market resolves to a draw outcome. Resolution occurs shortly after final whistle confirmation from the league or official match data.
Team news such as injury announcements, lineup changes, or tactical shifts announced before kickoff can significantly reprrice this market. Early first-half momentum and scoreline will influence second-half expectations; a team trailing by multiple goals may adopt aggressive tactics that increase scoring likelihood. Substitutions and red cards during the first half directly impact second-half dynamics and trader positioning. Weather conditions, referee assignments, and historical head-to-head second-half patterns also influence trader conviction. Real-time score updates and possession metrics during the first half will drive continuous repricing as traders adjust their outlook for the final 45 minutes.
