Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has its own user base, trading rules, and liquidity, which can influence price discovery. For example, different risk appetites among traders on each platform could lead to varying valuations. Additionally, the specific contract types offered – such as spreads or outright winners – may differ, impacting how traders express their views on the San Diego vs. St. Thomas game. Market makers and arbitrageurs attempt to exploit these differences, but temporary price discrepancies can persist.
