Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Different user bases, fee structures, and liquidity pools naturally create price gaps between platforms. Polymarket may attract traders focused on specific inning outcomes, while Kalshi draws a broader audience. Arbitrage opportunities emerge when one platform lags in incorporating new information—for example, a late injury report or weather update. Transaction costs and withdrawal friction also vary by platform, making small price differences unprofitable to exploit. Savvy traders monitor both feeds to identify mispricings, though these gaps typically close within minutes once spotted.
Key catalysts include roster changes, injury announcements, and recent team performance trends. A star player's absence or return can shift win probability significantly. Weather conditions at game time—wind speed, temperature, and humidity—affect run-scoring likelihood and ball carry distance. Betting line movement at major sportsbooks often precedes prediction market shifts, as sharp bettors move first. Pregame commentary from analysts and social media sentiment can also influence trader positioning. Real-time updates during the game itself will drive the most dramatic repricing as actual plays unfold.
