Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those found on Polymarket, it may indicate differing opinions on the likely winner of the San Diego doubles match, or potentially an arbitrage opportunity for informed traders. It’s important to note that prediction markets often incorporate information more quickly than sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. Currently, the market indicates a strong likelihood of one outcome, as reflected in the trading activity and share prices available on the platform.
