Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and often incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows traders to express their own beliefs about the outcome. If sportsbook odds strongly disagree with this market, it could indicate a potential arbitrage opportunity, or that the crowd holds a different view than professional oddsmakers. It’s important to note that prediction markets often become more accurate closer to the event date as more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
