Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and opinions. Discrepancies can arise due to differing risk assessments, information access, or simply varying interpretations of the same data. It’s common to see prediction markets react quickly to new information, potentially leading to odds movements that differ from those seen at sportsbooks.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each outcome. The price of a contract reflects the market’s current expectation of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective forecast. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as profitable traders are rewarded and those with inaccurate forecasts may incur losses. This dynamic pricing mechanism aims to converge towards a fair and efficient assessment of the event’s likelihood.
