Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. These differences can present opportunities for informed traders who believe the market has mispriced the probability of a particular result. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise when evaluating the potential value in this market.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing potential outcomes. The price of a contract reflects the market’s collective assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy contracts for a specific result, the price increases, and the implied probability rises.
