Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, especially in response to breaking news or unexpected developments related to the teams.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement is driven by supply and demand; if many traders believe a particular score is likely, they will buy shares, driving up the price, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic and informative price signal.
