Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when there's strong public sentiment or inside information not yet reflected in sportsbook lines. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information, potentially offering a more accurate assessment of the likely outcome compared to initial sportsbook offerings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective forecast. Higher volume generally indicates greater confidence and tighter odds, while lower volume might suggest uncertainty or a lack of strong conviction among traders.
