This market tracks whether the Republican Party will hold 47 or fewer Senate seats following the 2026 midterm elections. Currently, the consensus probability across Kalshi and Polymarket indicates a 38.5% chance of this outcome. The second most probable outcome is that the Republican Party will hold exactly 48 Senate seats, with a probability of 17%. Resolution is determined by the final Senate seat count on February 1, 2027, as defined by the resolution source, and will account for all elections, runoffs, and party switches. Keep an eye on the results of the November 2026 midterm elections to see how the initial seat count shapes the market’s trajectory.
This market will resolve according to the Republican Party’s seat count in the United States Senate as a result of the 2026 United States midterm election scheduled for November 3, 2026. The seat count includes all regular and special Senate elections that determine representation in the upcoming 120th Congress and are scheduled to take place in November 2026 as of October 31, 2026. Runoffs for qualifying elections will determine attribution of the relevant seat, even if they take place after November 2026. Vacant seats for which no election or special election to fill the seat is scheduled to take place in November 2026 as of October 31, 2026 will be treated as held by the party affiliation of the most recent member to hold that seat. For seats contested in the specified election, seats are attributed to the party under which the member was elected. If a member-elect changes party affiliation, or vacates their seat, between election day and the formal organization of Congress, the seat is attributed to the party under which the member was elected. For seats not contested in the specified election, seats are attributed to the party that holds the seat as of the date of the election. If a current sitting member of the U.S. Senate who is not up for election changes party affiliation or vacates their seat after the date of the election, the seat is attributed to the party under which the member was affiliated at the time of the election. Senate members elected as independents who formally caucus with, or, for newly elected members, who announce their intent to caucus with, the Republican party are included in the count. If the caucus decisions of members of the Senate elected as independents cannot be determined on the date of the election, this market may remain open until the earlier of (i) an announcement from the relevant members of their intents to caucus, or (ii) January 4th, 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year. If no such announcement is made by January 4th, 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year, the member will not count towards the seat count of any party. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from relevant state electoral authorities, the United States Congress, and a consensus of credible reporting.
The Republican party's Senate seat total on February 1, 2027 will be measured across a comprehensive range from below 45 seats through above 57 seats. Each outcome bracket resolves to Yes if the Republican party holds the specified number of seats on the resolution date. The measurement captures the full spectrum of possible post-election Senate compositions, allowing traders to express views on the degree of Republican representation in the chamber following the midterm elections.
Prediction market odds often offer a different perspective than traditional polling averages. While polls capture a snapshot of current voter sentiment, this market reflects what traders believe will *actually* happen, incorporating a wider range of information and anticipating strategic shifts. Historically, prediction markets have demonstrated a strong track record of accuracy, sometimes outperforming polls, especially closer to the election date. However, it's important to remember that both tools have limitations and can be influenced by various factors, and this market is no exception. The current volume of $5,622,579 suggests active engagement with this question.
Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to several factors. Different trader bases, varying market structures, and distinct liquidity levels all contribute to price discrepancies. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. For example, Polymarket might attract more sophisticated political analysts, while Kalshi could have a broader range of participants. Furthermore, the volume traded on each platform – currently $5,622,579 overall – isn’t evenly distributed, impacting price discovery. These differences in market dynamics can lead to differing probabilities assigned to the same outcomes, even within this market.
This market resolves around Feb 1, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the final composition of the Senate following the 2026 midterm elections is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome will be determined by the actual number of seats held by each party in the 118th Congress, as certified by official election results. Traders are currently assessing the probabilities of various scenarios, with a total volume of $5,622,579 traded to date. The final result will be based on the official Senate roster following the election.
Numerous events could significantly impact this market before Feb 1, 2027. Major economic shifts, unexpected candidate announcements, significant geopolitical events, and changes in national polling trends are all potential catalysts. Key primary elections will provide early indicators of party strength, and any major scandals involving candidates could also shift the odds. Furthermore, legislative outcomes and presidential approval ratings could influence perceptions of the political landscape. With a 24-hour volume of $111,826, the market is sensitive to new information and will react accordingly.
