Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to maximize profit, incorporating a margin for themselves, while this market represents what traders believe is the true probability of each outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into public perception and potential value opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The total volume traded influences the liquidity and stability of the market, providing a more accurate reflection of overall sentiment regarding the Bobichon vs Coulibaly match.
