Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective intelligence of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each market. It’s common to see this market move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information emerges or as the event draws closer. Comparing the two can offer a more comprehensive view of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective forecast. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and it’s a dynamic indicator of what traders believe will happen in the Rakuten Monkeys versus TSG Hawks game.
