Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Different platforms attract different users with varying expertise and information. Polymarket and Kalshi also have distinct fee structures and liquidity profiles, which can influence pricing. Furthermore, the specific market types offered on each platform—for example, a spread versus a simple win/loss outcome—can lead to divergent opinions. These factors combine to create price discrepancies, even when both markets address the same underlying event. The differing volume on each platform also contributes to price discovery.
Several factors could influence the price of this market. Any news regarding key player injuries, changes in coaching strategies, or significant weather forecasts impacting game conditions could shift trader sentiment. Unexpected performance in preceding games for either Purdue or Illinois will also likely cause price movement. Additionally, large trades on either Polymarket or Kalshi can create short-term volatility, as can broader shifts in public opinion regarding the teams' chances of success. Monitoring these signals will be crucial for understanding potential price fluctuations.
