Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, however, is driven purely by the collective predictions of traders, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities, especially as the event approaches. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts based on a wider range of information and participant viewpoints. On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the aggregated wisdom of the crowd, constantly updating as new information becomes available and traders adjust their positions. This creates a dynamic and efficient price discovery process.
