Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting percentages and risk management strategies, while this market relies on individuals’ independent assessments of the players’ skills and potential performance. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, analytical approaches, or simply varying opinions on the likelihood of each outcome. It's common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a probability distribution. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a particular outcome will occur, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants in the market, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the PPA Mixed Doubles match.
