Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities, especially as new information emerges. It's common to see prediction markets move more quickly to reflect public sentiment or breaking news than sportsbooks, as the crowd’s wisdom is continuously updating the price. Comparing the two can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the potential outcome.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the collective wisdom of traders on Polymarket, indicating the perceived likelihood of a particular team winning the PPA Men's Doubles match. Higher demand for shares in a team drives up the price, suggesting greater confidence in their victory.
