Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to maximize profit, factoring in a house edge and public betting biases. This market, however, is driven by the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Therefore, discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. It’s common to see prediction markets incorporating information faster than sportsbooks, especially regarding late-breaking news or shifts in sentiment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants.
