Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before a significant amount of trading occurs. Comparing the odds can be a useful exercise to gauge public sentiment and identify potential value, but remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Bailly vs Dellien match, and the price of these shares reflects the implied probability of that outcome. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, meaning that if more people believe a particular outcome is likely, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa.
