Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may also incorporate a margin for profit. This market, however, allows traders to collectively express their beliefs about the outcome, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as new information emerges. Discrepancies between prediction market prices and sportsbook odds can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both venues. It's important to note that these odds represent different types of forecasts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market remains responsive to new information and changing sentiment regarding the Langmo vs Coulibaly match. The market's efficiency depends on active participation and informed trading.
