Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, aiming to profit regardless of the outcome. This market, however, is driven purely by the collective predictions of traders, theoretically representing a more accurate probability assessment. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on team statistics and expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts based on the wisdom of the crowd, potentially identifying discrepancies or undervalued outcomes that sportsbooks may miss. It’s a fascinating comparison to consider when evaluating potential bets.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible outcome – in this case, either the Thorns or the Dash winning the second half. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring; a share priced at 60 means there's a 60% chance of that outcome, according to the market. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the aggregated beliefs of all participants.

This market resolves around Sep 27, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The result will be determined by which team—the Portland Thorns FC or the Houston Dash—wins the second half of the scheduled match. Official match results from a recognized sports data provider will serve as the basis for verification. Traders who correctly predicted the winning team will be entitled to a payout based on the final market prices at the time of resolution, while those who predicted incorrectly will forfeit their shares.

Several factors could influence the trading activity in this market before resolution. Any news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either the Thorns or the Dash would likely cause significant price movement. Changes in team form, such as a recent winning or losing streak, could also shift trader sentiment. Even seemingly minor events, like pre-match tactical announcements or weather conditions, could impact the perceived probabilities. Furthermore, large trades by influential market participants could create short-term volatility and potentially signal shifts in overall market expectations.
