Typically, prediction market odds reflect a broader range of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows participants to directly express their beliefs about the outcome. As a result, prediction markets can sometimes be more accurate forecasters, particularly when there is significant public interest. However, sportsbook odds can still be a useful benchmark for comparison, and discrepancies may highlight potential value opportunities within this market. It’s important to consider both sources when forming your own opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will climb. Conversely, if sentiment shifts towards a different outcome, the price of its shares will decrease. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd.
