Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probabilities as assessed by traders. Polls and analysts currently favor one team, but the collective wisdom of the crowd on Polymarket may offer a contrasting perspective. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on player form, potential upsets, and the influence of external factors impacting the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a specific result, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds closely align with the aggregated predictions of all participants trading on Polymarket.
